5Great Phone once Access Point and Name was set
By victorb
When we received this phone from Amazon, my daughter was ecstatic. Phone was great, BUT she could not send or receive messages with photos. Went to T-Mobile and spent several hours with their people trying to determine the problem and fix it. The problem: the phone would not connect to a data (2G/3G) network. In the end, the T-Mobile folks declared that the phone was defective. We returned the phone through Amazon (which worked very smoothly and quickly) and purchased another DEFY through a different vendor on Amazon, and when it arrived, it had the same problem. After deciding that the likelihood of two separate vendors selling defective phones was unlikely, I did some "research" on my own and discovered that the actual problem was that the APN was not setup in the phone (actually found the settings on T-Mobile's web site). After inputting those settings, the phone works like a charm!

My only complaint about the phone is that Motorola, the vendor, or whoever is selling these phones does not include the information about setting up the APN even if that meant consumers had to contact their service providers for these settings! It was a very simple "fix" in the end, but we went through lot of unnecessary run-around to discover it.

5A bargain price for a full featured and quality phone
By Randal Calvert
This is the best price I have seen for a phone with a 4-inch screen, dual core processor, and a good name brand. Have only been using the phone for a couple days but battery life seems better than that of the 2x as expensive sony xperia TL which I had previously. Screen quality is comparable to an iPhone 4. Phone came new in box with USB cable, charger, and headphones. Android UI made it simple to set the language of the phone, set up gmail account, etc.Construction of the phone is solid and it looks great too. My only real complaint is that you must buy an SD card to put in the phone before you can take pictures or download apps. Despite the otherwise good specs, the internal memory is very tiny. [When you get the phone google "most recent APN" for at&t, t-mobile or whoever your carrier is.] [Then on the phone go to "settings > wireless & network > mobile networks > access point names."] Access Point Name or (APN) is where you will type in the info which you find on google to get this unlocked phone working with your mobile network. It is an easy process once you find the APN settings online. Keep in mind that this phone will only run @ edge data speeds even when 3g service would be available on at&t network. The signal frequencies on many unlocked phones, like this one, were designed in alternate countries, therefore their 3g frequencies don't match ours. However keep in mind that signal strength of this phone is still great running on edge speeds.

5Above my expectations.
By Jason Bolinger
Wasn't sure how well this phone would work with the limited reviews over the net. This phone was made for another country but works just fine with GMS servers here in the U.S. Wifi if available is faster then the 2G. But then 2G isn't that bad when loading a video off youtube, takes about 30sec or so. Picture quality is wonderful and clear and has a great sound for a phone. Battery life goes fast but I guess that is normal for smart phones when messing on the net or playing on apps. Had the phone service tech set our phones up for us and he had problems with the phone wanting to revert back to another language. As I have used the phone it has not done this so not sure what he was doing to cause that. Also to take note the area we had phones set up had 4G service and the phone according to the tech guy said the phone picks 4G up. I would think so as a video on youtube was nearly instant to view. Have herd comments that the phone looks and operates like the Galaxy III from an owner of that phone. Phone does have a lot of options and takes some time to get to know. Instruction manual did come in English. And the Phone did come with USB cable and a wall charger which is used with the USB cable. Will need to purchase a SD Micro card 32g or less as this is the largest it will accept. 32g is probably more then enough but for around 10 bucks why not. Our phones did come new and unlocked. I wrote this review 2 days after setting phones up. 4/13/14

5Well engineered, amazing if just for the camera & the screen!
By JoHn
>>BUYERS BE WARE, there are many versions of this phone, the US at&t version is a 16 GB version, people unlock it via an unlock code and sell it as an unlocked international version, the international one has 32 GB & comes without the at&t logo on the front. The one on this page is the 16 GB one, the 32 GB will cost a bit more and you need to write in search "32 GB One X", remember this phone has no slot for an external SD card, so more internal storage may be crucial for some!<<

----Original review----
I used so many brands and models of phones and smartphones than I can remember, and this one here, except for the memory card thing, covers every hole that was in every other phone I used. It also covers any thing u may have thought of having in a phone, and it is doing that in style! I tried the Samsung Galaxy S3 at at&t before choosing the One x, and it really isn't better. I mean it is just about personal preferences, I always feel Samsung phones ( not all Samsung products, I love their TVs for example)have a cheap felling. Besides I liked how the One X looked more than the S3.

Pros:

-Amazing screen, and I am coming from a Motorola Droid Razr which has a very good screen itself. The screen here is sharper, colors are better, no shadows(Razr had a green shadow on all colors. Watching Youtube or any vids on this phone is a thing I long for throughout the day!
-Battery life is good enough for a full day with moderate use. Of course excessive movie watching, game playing or hours long web surfing require a twice chraging.
-The 8 MP Camera deserves all the fuzz it received when first introduced, its pictures are steady, colors are vivid and quality is really high!
-Speed: The phone handles multitasking very well, games and videos are a breath nothing you should worry about here.

Cons:

The only thing I didn't like about this phone, which is why I would say it is more like 4.5 stars not 5, is the lack of a memory card slot. I mean, seriously? it has a 2 year free subscription for extra storage online and everything, but whyyy?? How hard was it to add an extra slot for a memory card? An engineer's mistake without any doubt.

Bottom line, if you want an Android phone go for the One X or the S3, can't make up your mind, try them both and just pick any of them you will end up with a winner either way!

-----UPDATE------
So I was tempted to get the S3 since I have a month to exchange the phone with at&t and I wanted to know how better was the S3. I got the blue S3 and I certainly loved it, it doesn't feel cheap in hand as I expected, but it feels rather classy and here are my thoughts in comparison, I hope this experience may help other people decide:
- The S3 overall look is really slick, it is ofcourse all about personal preferences as I said before, but sometime I wished that the One X looked more like the blue S3! the metal edges gave it some superiority no doubt about that, the blue finish was really good, but the white looks really cheap, don't think about it!
- The Samsung motions( swipe to take a screen shot, raise the phone up to your ears with an open message to automatically dial the sender without pressing any keys & others) are really cool and are certainly a point above the OneX.
- Sd card slot, as basic as it is , it is better than not having one!
But that is it, these are the only things where the S3 bests the OneX
- The Svoice(Smamsung reply to iPhone's Siri) Is totally useless, and certainly needs more development, a good idea that may get better in newer models, but not a plus for the S3, not to mention it consumes more battery when turned on.
- The screen is different than the one X, I can't totally explain it, not the pixels density but mainly the colors. As I read online it looks like Samsung forgot to calibrate its screens, so as good as they are colors don't look natural. And you can't really feel it unless u spent some time with the OneX's gorgeous screen, colors aren't as vibrant or bright, a picture of a clear sea looks darker, less vivid and less colorful on the S3 than the One X and though really good, the One X is considerably better.
- The camera is good, but again the One X's camera is definitely better both outdoor & indoor, may be not by much but the difference is definitely there.
- Eye tracking: It was supposed to prevent the screen from sleeping when you are reading or surfing, well it doesn't do the job very well. In low light situations it is pretty much useless, since it depends on the front camera for eye tracking. In regular light it was ok, but again u had to hold to hold the phone in a certain way to make sure it "sees" your eye! I didn't find it that impressive..or useful!
- Speed:same for both
- Samsung's touchWiz vs htc Sense is an even battle I liked them both.
- Battery: both are almost the same battery wise, though moderate to heavy use will definitely require a twice per day charging with both of them, you may be able to get enough juice till you get back home. Actually light use easily gets you through the day.
Of course you can buy an extra battery with the S3 and swipe batteries cos the one X has a built in battery which the user can't replace on his own, but again you can buy a charging case for the oneX!
Both have NFC which I didn't use in the ~ Two weeks period with each phone.

-------Conclusion-------
If you want a better screen and camera definitely go with the oneX, you will regret you didn't go with it when you see one in comparison with the S3!
If you are a media fanatic who needs a lot of space, the the OneX isn't for u, the S3 is as good as a phone, even with a lower screen but with extra micro SD card slot. Also if you like to impress your friends, the little Samsung motions are certainly impressive and fun to use and the overall look may be a bit better.

WHAT DID I DO?
I missed how great the OneX screen was, I certainly missed how awesome HD vids looked on the screen, also I missed the slightly better camera, so I gladly paid the $35 restocking fee for at&t and again returned back to the OneX, black this time since the white one caught stains fairly easily and had to be cleaned from time to time! I sold the at&t over eBay and bought the unlocked international version with 32 GB built in memory, which was a bit more expensive but was definitely worth it!

1Beware, Seller is not being totally honest about this phone
By Patricia
I purchased this phone for my husband so we didn't have to extend our AT&T contract. I paid a premium price for this phone, the same as a new one from AT&T and I expected to get a new phone. What we received was a previously sold and returned refurbished phone at a new phone price.

I gave the phone to my husband on Christmas morning unknown that it was a refurb. My husband suspected it wasn't new due to cosmetic marks on it and when he went to the AT&T store to activate it they confirmed it had been previously sold and was returned under warranty due to a defect.

Fast forward 3 weeks. My husband has had the phone and it has worked for the most part. It did have some glitches with freezing up at times and taking a long time to finally ring when he tried to make a call. Wireless also would lock on to a network and wouldn't let go even after leaving that network area so he would have to manually turn wifi off to get it to connect to the mobile network.... Very aggravating for a $500 phone.

My husband put his phone on charge last night and turned it off as he normally does... This morning he takes it off charge and tried to power it up...Nothing! He spent the next hour trying to get it to boot up.....Nothing!
He then takes it up to AT&T and they try several different things to get it to boot up....NOTHING! the phone is completely dead after only 3 weeks of ownership.

My husband is livid I spent $500+ on this phone and the fact he now has NO PHONE.

BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!

I am not to crazy about HTC sense kind of slows phone a bit sometimes, I added apex launcher and let me tell you this phone is super fast with this launcher. my previous phones iPhone 4s and Samsung galaxy note were great phones, but can't touch the HTC one x.

1Terrible seller. Sent defective phone and won't change it.
By Amazon Customer
My phone was defective when it arrived - it wouldn't read any SIM cards. I returned it and they refuse to exchange it. They claim that I flashed it and lost the IMEI#. I did none of that. I returned it exactly as I got it, with one exception: I left the USB cable at home. Since I didn't want to go back home to get it, I expected to get charged for a new one. But they made stuff up about me flashing it to get out of exchanging the defective phone.

If you get this phone, DO NOT BUY FROM SHOPEBEST. Get it somewhere else. I got scammed for more than $700 and have nothing to show for it.

Watch out for this fraudulent seller.

I've already made a claim with Amazon, but haven't heard back yet.

Edit: Finally got a refund, but I got hit with a $300 restocking fee. Contacted Amazon again, and they fixed it. I now have the full refund. Very happy with Amazon's customer service, but never again will I buy from Shopebest.

4Phone is okay, not happy with the seller.
By Phil_whiteboy
I ordered the phone Friday April 11th before lunch time, and selected one day shipping. I then called the seller to confirm they had it in stock and it would be going out. They told me shipping cut off for the day was 5pm (plenty of time) and they were just waiting on Amazon to send them my order details to their computer system.

The phone did not arrive until Wednesday April 16th. I am disappointed it took 5 days when i paid for one day shipping.

Second issue was when i opened the package they sent me the SM-G900F model. As you can see they clearly state more than once in the item description they are selling the SM-G900H version. After researching the difference it looks like the G900F is supposed to have LTE bands 800/850/900/1800/2100/2600 MHz which the G900H does not have. However when i put my T-Mobile SIM in, i can not get LTE, I only get HSPA+.

Third issue is the manufactures seal on the box was broken, the box had been opened. All of the accessories appear to be accounted for. The clear plastic static shields where still attached to the screen and back of the phone. However when i turned the phone on someone had already went through the setup screens. You know when you first turn on a new phone it ask you your language, owners name, basic setup questions, etc, before getting to the home screen. So i went into the settings and did a factory reset.

Other then that the phone seems to be working fine, minus not being able to get LTE with T-Mobile.

5Evolutionary NOT revolutionary!
By rpv
Oh, Another year, another set of phones from manufacturers! I have been hooked onto get the latest phone every year syndrome and love reviewing specifics. Disclaimer, I love Android and have been using from very early days. I will not call Samsung Galaxy S5 as revolutionary, but it is certainly evolutionary. If you have an older phone more than 2 years old, absolutely get this. I love Samsung Galaxy S5 from its competitors for few reasons - removable battery, microSD card support and the maturity of the product. I have been using a S5 for past couple of days and have ordered a unlocked one from my local store. There are so many variants already in the market. So do check local specs. For example, in china market dual SIM S5 is available.

Galaxy S5's back plate has a perforated dot pattern and a excellent matte finish. As a result, the phone looks far more sophisticated than its past designs despite its plastic build. Its surface feels nice to the touch without being too rough or too slippery. I really do _not_ care about the plastic, in fact the lightweight nature is what I care. Some people make a huge deal out of it. A high quality plastic is good for lightweight and I go with lightweight than a heavy phone in the pocket. A reputed tech site called recently Samsung as the “undisputed king of the Android smartphone space”. True indeed. With the plethora of devices in tablets/phones, they have iterated so much that they can produce truly stunning products.

If you care for weight, the Galaxy S4 is lighter than S5. (please see my stats below). In fact pixel density is slightly higher in S4 due to a 0.1in size difference. So get an S4, it is cheaper and still same phone that came out last year. If you care for heart rate monitor, fingerprint scanner, and water proof, get the S5. Otherwise literally similar set and you can save a lot by getting S4 now. Last year when S4 came out it was a great phone. It still is, though S5 came out now. Obsoletion is in the mind of the us, not on the devices.

In my opinion, following are key specs to consider when you buying a phone. Most of others are standard or does not matter at all. First size, weight and resolution are part of look and feel. RAM/CPU part of performance. external Storage is part of expandability. Camera is obvious! SAR (Specific Absorption Rating) is an often ignored, but I feel essential to making a buying choice. Manufacturers don’t advertize or mention SAR prominently.

Given the above key specs, my suggestion to my friends is to choose 2 or 3 KEY features you require (may be large screen size, maybe less weight, maybe more CPU power) and then start nailing down the phones. Definitely and definitely go to a phone or a big box store and feel the phone. Nothing replaces that. In the end end you are using it for days and years, so the tactile feel is very important.

SCREEN SIZE/RESOLUTION:
I have experimented with many phone sizes and I have come to a conclusion 5” is the best form factor for me. Your mileage may vary, but after using Note for a while, I don’t use it as a primary phone. The display in S5 is absolutely stunning with a Super AMOLED display and you have to see to feel it!

ANDROID UI:
S5 has Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box. User Interface hasa flatter and simpler design, as is now the trend across the industry. Once you get used to user interface you get used to it. Android is very flexible and when I show my phone to a iPhone users they are usually in awe. I recently to my friends shows the details of processes. battery usage like which process takes up more battery, Qi charging receivers for wireless charging on Galaxy phones and they were in awe.

WATER PROOF:
Obviously I have not tested this!, but a very nice to have feature and gives a peace of mind

CAMERA:
This can just replace a point and shoot camera. Wait, what is a point and shoot camera?! Very impressive. S5 has a 16MP camera with super-fast autofocus, HDR mode with real-time preview, and support for 4K video recording. Definitely state of the art. I took several indoor photos and they look great. It will be interesting to see how photos appear in a vanilla S5 which Google will release.

S-HEALTH:
I rely and use S-Health more than any other app in my Galaxy S5. It has driven my fitness regimen to a very good progress and the design of app is nothing short of buttery and beautiful. I am often too in good favor of Samsung loading the phones with S-Ware, but their design of S-Health is definitely breathtaking. Heart rate monitor is a great addition to the fitness tools. I used it for walking several steps and found it same as in S4.

PROCESSING POWER:
Don’t bother about it. For 99% of users, this is good enough. The phone has more processing power than the rocket that went to moon first time and much more. The games are very smooth, the UI is very smooth.

Qi WIRELESS CHARGING:
I wonder why Samsung does not release wireless charging built in. You have to get a external Qi wireless charger and open the back, align it and use with a Qi charger. It should be integrated, but you can do it after the fact.

NFC Tags:
Wow, this is the most underrated in all reviews. Get bunch ( I mean around 10) of NFC Tags and use in bedrooms, offices, cars, living room and customize what your phone wants to do in those areas. For example in my S4, when I enter the car most often I use a) Navigation b) Listen to Podcasts. So I program my NFC tags accordingly using apps like Trigger and tap my phone to the NFC Tag and boom, phone does both. I am programming my S5 also to do host of things.

128 GB Micro SD card!!
This is just incredible. If you see my reviews, I have been saying having external capacity is very key. With a 4K camcorder you can fill your space in a blink of the eye. Movies take up space. Who would have thought a 128 GB tiny card can fit in a phone. This is just incredible. I tested with a 128 GB and it works wonderfully! A 16 GB phone memory will have around 10 GB spare initially.

OTG - USB Hosts:
This is also often ignored feature in many reviews. On the GO USB cable + S5 means you can use with external hard disks, and virtually many of USB devices. If you have a thumb drive and have files, you can in fact read with a phone and don’t necessarily have to open a laptop. works out of the box.

BATTERY:
Do you really need to care for battery anymore. I don’t. Just use the phone. I have battery power banks with capacity as high as 30,000 mAh to 8000 mAh that I can charge virtually anywhere without a power supply. So this has become moot for me in past year. I would also suggest you get power banks and not really care of battery drainage. Use the phone and enjoy!

MISC FEATURES:
I tested fingerprint scanner, but I am not sure how reliable it will be over time with scratches/oily fingers etc. I have to test it further, but for now I will settle on traditional passwords till bugs are ironed out. Apple’s initial fingerprint software had bugs which was fixed subsequently. There are so many other features in S5. Some of them have become so standard that they are not review worthy! e.g., Infrared for wireless remotes, GPS etc. GPS was spot on and I tried multiple GPS apps. It was bright outdoors (had to crank the brightness all the way up).

To give a sample, I tried following apps and they just worked awesome.

Amazon Mobile, Androidify, Angry Birds (multiple themes), Asphalt 8, Box, Chrome, NAVIGON (from Garmin - offline maps), TOM TOM, , Google Navigation/Earth/Maps, Google Currents (nice way to read News), Google Drive, Ebay, Linkedin, Google Music, Tapatalk (awesome forum browsing app), Microsoft One Note (legacy docs, skydrive of 25 GB is good), Microsoft Office, (yes they hve for Android!), Subsonic Music Streamer, TweetCaster Pro for Android (excellent twitter client), Twit.Tv, Trigger, Google Voice

Ask questions, the review cannot do justice to Galaxy S5. I will be glad to answer any questions within 24 hours.

4Sharp, Solid, but Harder to Hold than IPhone 4
By Tristan
I have been using the iPhone starting with the very first one. It was expensive back then. So, in comparison, today's prices really are not that bad. So my thoughts on the iPhone 5 are:

1) Retina display is awesome. Everything looks more defined and sharper. It is like wearing glasses for the first time! There is much color and clarity out there... or should I say, in those digital images and videos... needless to say, the camera as well captures great images.
2) Call quality is excellent, no issues at all. I also like the new earbuds better. They fit my ears better and call signal is very good. By the way, the packaging of the earphones was A+++.
3) Build - same as all previous iPhones, maybe a tad sturdier. I dropped my phone last night when I got off my car, so it now has a skid mark one of the aluminum corners - boy am I happy it was just a ragged little nick on the outer antenna (corner). The glass did not shatter or crack. The aluminum back wasn't scratched. Of course the way it fell may have mattered, but still, a drop on our concrete garage floor is a drop. The experience speaks well of Apple.
4) Size and shape - this is where I took out a star. The increased screen size looks good. But a longer, thinner, "uniform-flatness" shape - although indeed a great form factor visually - does not translate into a comfortable hold. I feel like I am holding on to only the right and left side of the phone, almost daintily (like holding a small teacup with your little pinky upturned). My thumb on one side, and my pointer and third finger on the other. The back does not even touch my palm. I am not sure how others hold their phones, but I feel a little awkward with this one. I am tempted to but a bulky case (like some ugly Otterbox or one with extended battery) but then it wouldn't look as trendy.

So I leave it at that. I love my phone and I use it a lot, mostly for communication purposes, and not for entertainment. But I am still adjusting to how I am supposed to hold this neat little thing comfortably. iPhone 4's shape was better, in my opinion, but everything else about the 5 is better than 4 or 4S.

To each his own! This review is not an all-encompassing review, so read it with a grain of salt, and most of all, enjoy your new phone, whatever it may be!

5Not easy to activate, but worth it I think...
By D. Christensen
OK, this is going to sound incredibly ironic I know...

But I am a U.S. citizen living in South Korea, land of Samsung and LG. When I wanted to buy a replacement handset for use in South Korea...I ordered a "made in Korea" handset from the United States, and had it shipped...back to Korea where it came from!!! :)

Now people reading this are wondering...why the HECK would I do that? Well the great irony of living in Korea is that most Korean products are more expensive than they are in the United States. For example, if you want to buy a Hyundai automobile...you can pay $30,000 USD in the United States...or you can buy the same exact model Korean car for the equivalent of about $40,000 USD in Korea. Go figure...
Cell phones are even worse. Any decent android phone starts around equivalent of USD $800...and goes MUCH more expensive. I'm not talking about the latest and greatest, either. Right now, you need to fork out (the equivalent of) about USD $800 to get a Galaxy S2 (brand new, without contract) in South Korea. To put that in perspective, the Galaxy S4 was just released. You do NOT want to know how much that costs!!!

I knew the level of "performance" I was aiming for. To get a decent android handset in Korea, I would have to spend at least USD $1000 (equivalent) OR fork out several hundred dollars AND sign a two-year contract. No thank you...

So I did extensive research to determine if a factory unlocked phone (say, from Amazon) would work in South Korea. Based on my extensive research, the answer was NO. Even some of my friends living in Korea forever told me that it wasn't possible. But I did it anyway. :) On paper at least, many of the factory unlocked handsets sold on Amazon SHOULD work in Korea. Technically speaking, there is nothing that would prevent them from working on Korean cell phone networks. I decided to take a chance, as I needed two android phones (one for my wife) and did not feel like spending 2000 USD to buy them.

OK, to review the phone...
The phone is FANTASTIC!!! It is the functional equivalent of a Samsung Galaxy SIII, or a Samsung Galaxy "Grand" Duo. The performance is incredible...no lag on anything. It has a nice camera that takes GOOD digital pictures. The size is right...small enough to be used one-handed comfortably. And yet, large enough to do some web surfing on the go. I get lots of comments on it... it is a very impressive phone with good features and good performance. :) The battery life is phenomenal for an android device. As I'm sure most are aware, any good android device will need to be charged every day, sometimes more than once a day. I can get two days' use out of the P715 with extensive web surfing. I've got a 16GB Sandisk ultra-fast Micro-SD memory card installed...will probably never run out of storage space. This handset performs better than a Samsung Galaxy SIII...and it is cheaper. I'd say it is a GREAT bargain.

For comparison purposes, the other models I considered buying were a Samsung Galaxy SIII Mini, a Samsung Galaxy Grand Duo, Another LG model with slightly larger screen (P768, something like that) and a Google Nexus 4 (made by LG). I ruled out the Nexus for a couple of reasons. First, the price was considerably higher. Based on reviews, I WOULD have been willing to buy the Nexus 4 anyway. But the Nexus 4 has a battery that can't be replaced by the user. So that was a deal-breaker, there. I can't believe Google / LG created such an awesome phone (the nexus 4) with such a glaring weakness!!! I could not really find anything "wrong" with any of the other models I was considering. I almost went with the slightly larger LG model. But in the end, the dual sim capability AND large (enormous) battery were enough to convince me to go with the P715 by LG.

No regrets. I got Samsung Galaxy SIII performance for less money. A LOT less, as I would have paid about four times as much for a similar android device in Korea!

Now, on activation... (Keep in mind this is activation procedure on SK Telecom or KT / Olleh network in South Korea)

Activation was a bit of a headache and not a straight-forward procedure. I had a Samsung Galaxy which was slowly fading on me. It needed to be replaced. It had a (properly activated) SK Telecom sim in it. When the LG P715 handsets arrived (two of them, remember...one white and one blue but looks black...) I popped my SK Telecom sim into the white one and NOTHING. Actually, wading through all the various settings menus...I could see that the phone was connected to SK telecom somehow...but I had no data flow and (zero) signal strength showing, and I got the "emergency calls only" message on the home screen. :(

So, I put the SK Telecom sim back into the (failing) Samsung Galaxy, and the sim worked fine. Not a sim problem, obviously.

So then I took the (now simless) LG P715 to a SK Telecom store. I told the ladies there that I wanted a new phone number on SK Telecom. They said "no problem sir" and proceeded to pop a new SK Telecom sim into the LG P715. They didn't have any better luck with it than I did. They could not get the LG P715 to work on SK Telecom network. They tried for about 20 minutes, and gave up. I asked if my handset (LG P715) could not be activated on SK Telecom. The girl responded, "I'm not sure...maybe another cell phone store could activate it?" In other words, she did not want to be bothered with it.

Next day, I took it to another SK Telecom store. I told the guy there that I wanted a new phone number on SK Telecom. He looks at my handset and asks, "where did you get THIS???" I tell him I ordered it from the U.S. And after looking it over for a bit, he has me fill out some paperwork. He faxes the paperwork somewhere, installs a new sim card in the handset... and then we wait for a return phone call. After about 20 minutes, we are still waiting for a return phone call. So he calls SK Telecom and speaks to them in Korean for a bit. And then he hangs up with a puzzled expression on his face, and tells me..."SK Telecom can not activate this phone because they say it was not made in Korea". So I grab the box and we both read the side of the box...and it says "Made in Korea". (Well it IS LG...so yeah...) So he calls them back and speaks with them a bit and they ask for some more information from the handset. In about another 10 minutes...the phone is activated. YAY!!! Or so I thought...

Took it home, used it for a few days. Installed many of my favorite apps on it. It seemed to be working fine. Only, I was so busy that few days, that I did not really have time to use it "outside". I was always connected to WiFi. Then I finally realized that for phone and text, it's working great...but I haven't tried data on it. So I turn the WiFi off and...no data.
Long story short...I take it back to the SK Telecom store several times over the next few days, and the guy is very persistent in trying to get it to work...but he finally gives up. :(

He suggests maybe I should try to activate the phone on KT / Olleh. OK, so far I'd only been playing with the white one. The other one (blue, but looks black) was still in the unopened box. I realized that IF I could get it activated on KT / Olleh, that is the one that I would want to be carrying myself. So I took the brand new, never used handset to the KT / Olleh store.

There were three young ladies working at the KT / Olleh store. I told one I wanted a new phone number on this handset (and handed it to her). She again asked me where I got it. (Does it matter??? HaHa...) But then she just presented me with a wide range of calling plans to choose from. I chose one that is about the equivalent of $50USD monthly, with unlimited data.
Long story short here...it took about 30 minutes and all three young ladies working together to get the LG P715 activated on KT / Olleh network in South Korea. But it is working!!!

Since it has been activated, I have not had a problem with it. It is super fast on download speeds connected to KT / Olleh network in South Korea. And of course, it makes phone calls and sends/receives texts.

As a funny side note, I took my OLD phone back to the SK Telecom store. There, the lady (who had tried to activate my LG P715 on SK Telecom) noticed that I was using my LG P715 on KT / Olleh. She asked me where I'd taken it to get it activated. She was AMAZED that the KT store right down the street from her was able to get my handset activated with a KT / Olleh sim card. :) I only took my old phone back to the SK Telecom store as I was told I had to visit an SK Telecom store in person to cancel my SK Telecom service. How annoying. But the look on the SK Telecom lady's face was PRICELESS when she saw the LG P715 working well on KT / Olleh. :)

Summary of the cell phone handset LG P715: It is FANTASTIC. Worth much more than you will pay for it. IT performs better than many android handsets costing a lot more money. A great bargain! Buy it...you will LOVE IT!!!

Summary of activating the cell phone handset LG P715: (let's face it...the cell phone handset is useless without the cell phone network)
It will take some persistence. If you think you are just going to pop an activated sim into it and use it, think again. while I did not have a lot of free time to work on the project, it took me a couple of weeks to get ONE of my two handsets FULLY functional. The other one is still (NO DATA). But at least now I know who to take that handset to, to FIX that...
Haha...

Summary of South Korea Telecom providers:
Very hostile to cell phone handsets that were not made in Korea. A similar situation might be if you went to register your Mercedes car in Denver, Colorado...and the clerk there told you that you could not get plates for it because you bought a German made vehicle. South Korean cell phone providers only want to activate cell phones "made in Korea". And even then...only certain specific models.
It took a bit of arm-twisting to sneak this handset onto a KT / Olleh telecom contract, even though it is made in Korea. And SK Telecom? Virtually impossible, it seems...

For those who have never been to Korea, but are familiar with United States Telecom companies...
Verizon and AT&T are to the United States...
What KT / Olleh and SK telecom are to South Korea.

Final word: BUY!!!

5So far so good
By Amazon Customer
I recently got this phone and pretty pleased with it after having a fiasco with a Samsung GT-S7562 Galaxy S Duos. The instructions manual came in Chinese but it was pretty easy to find my way round the configuration. It was really straightforward. Its lightweight, nice big screen. Camera even does touch ups when the light is too bright! FAR superior to the Samsung I had. I do suggest it as a buy.

I have been using a S5 for past couple of days and have ordered one from my local store.

5A Samsung Evolution
By Johnny Saigon®
First off, I am not a professional reviewer, nor am I employed or compensated by Samsung or any other company. Instead of boring you with facts - which you can find anywhere on the Net - I will just give you some real-world impressions on how it looks, feels, and runs. With that out of the way, let's get to the point and the nitty gritty, shall we?

* THE SCREEN - that is the very first thing you will notice when you look at the S5. Samsung has found its niche with AMOLED screens, which are BRIGHT & SATURATED. Everything almost literally jumps out at you, and sometimes even too much so. I had to switch to the "natural" setting, as the "vivid" and even "standard" profiles are too saturated(and FAKE) for me. It's better as a demo unit to draw you in, but for everyday use, I recommend switching to the natural profile.
FACTS: The Galaxy S5 has a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with Full HD resolution - 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~432 ppi pixel density, plus Gorilla Glass 3 to protect the screen from scratches.

* The Look - the S5 has a more squared-off edges look than the S4, which is more squared off than the S3, but all three are not as angular as the S2. In terms of roundness-to square-ness, it goes from the S3 - S4 - S5 - S2 (the original S just looks like an iPhone 3GS). Check out my images for an easier comparison. The S5 is the tallest and widest, but not the thickest of the Galaxy S's. The best thing I can say about this is it's an evolution. Beauty is subjective, so judge for yourself. The front side is almost the same as any other Galaxy phone: You have the physical Home button, flanked by the "back" and "menu" capacitive buttons. Probably the most improved aspect of the design is in its functionality - it is now dust-proof, and water-proof up to 3 feet!
FACTS: The dimensions are 5.59" x 2.85" x 0.32"(142cm x 72.5cm x 8.1cm), and weighs 5.11oz(145g).

* The Feel - Samsung has taken a lot of flack for making the Galaxy S line so cheap looking and feeling with its plastic bodies, for being the top Android phone maker. HTC has been known to have the best craftsmanship with their all-metal One phones. Perhaps Samsung feel they are so dominant that they don't have to spend more to mass-produce metal phones, but since they don't want to come off as too arrogant, so their compromise is a dimpled, faux-rubber backside like the Nexus 7(2012) and its very own Galaxy Note 3. It definitely gives a better feel - it doesn't slip and slide in your hands or pockets anymore - but it cannot compare to the feel and craftsmanship of the HTC One(both the m7 and m8). It is on the right track though, so let's hope that rumored luxury "F" line or next year's S6 will continue to get better.

* How it Runs - This phone is fast, fast, FAST! With a 2.5gHz Snapdragon 801, it has the fastest processor out there right now. It terms of real speed, I cannot say if it is faster than the HTC One m8 or the Sony Xperia Z2, but it is definitely up there. When you touch an app icon to launch it, it launches nearly instantly. To really see how this phone flies, just open the gallery app and scroll through all your photos and you'll see what I mean. Usually the gallery is where most phones stutter as it tries to load all your photos and albums - but NOT the S5!

* The Camera - FINALLY! Samsung has decided to make a decent camera, and not just as an afterthought. This 16mp camera is really awesome, so much better than the S4. I would always get washed out images with my S3/S4/Note 2, but with the S5, it actually looks like it's from a decent point-and-shoot dedicated camera with crisp, bright, and saturated images. Low-light shooting is also vastly improved, although not as good as the new HTC One m8. 16mp means 5312 x 2988 -resolution images, so you can actually blow them up or crop them down without fearing the dreaded pixelation monster. There are a myriad of other cool and useful camera features that I will save for you to find out(like macro and "Google Street View" modes :]). And lastly, the focus is quick, quick, QUICK! Nearly instantaneous focus allows you to capture those hard-to-capture moments easier. A definitely thumbs up to Samsung for paying attention to the camera and its functions.

* Software - I'm still trying to figure out everything, as there is A LOT of stuff under the hood. Samsung's TouchWiz user interface this time around is A LOT less intrusive though, as much as can be without being totally stock Android, I guess. The layout and iconography are flatter and simpler, and for the better in my view. There is also a new sensor on the back, just beneath the camera lens. It is a heart-rate monitor/pedometer, and it comes with its own health app called S Health. There is a new battery-saving mode which can save you precious minutes when you're caught in a bind. All in all, I think this version is a lot nicer-looking, more responsive, and better than the precious S phones.

The ultimate question is whether this phone is a worthy upgrade over the S4. As my review title suggests, it is an evolution, an incremental upgrade over the S4. So with that said I cannot whole-heartedly recommend it if you already have a good phone, or even over the S4. But I do feel this upgrade is more vast and much better than from the S3 to the S4, so in that sense Samsung has done a much better job this year. If you are switching from an older phone that was made at least 2 years ago, then I would tell you jump right in and try the S5 - it will not disappoint you. But for those with already a good phone, and/or say you just finished year one of your 2-year contract, then I would say think hard before you make the leap. For my money, I think the Note 4 and S6 will be the bigger upgrades more worth waiting for.
